The trail of bile acids on vannamei growth and immune function

The experiment of bile acids on growth performance and immune function on Litopenaeus vannamei

Bile acids are the main component of bile secreted by the liver of animals. They are stored in the gallbladder and promotes the emulsification, digestion and absorption of fat. It can also improve the liver and intestinal health of animals through the intestinal-hepatic circulation.

The bile acids are used in the culture of shrimp in South America to regulate the metabolism, absorption of fat and cholesterol in the liver. Besides, you can find the several functions: promote liver development, improve the health of hepatopancreas and immunity, prevent enteritis, white feces etc., reduce the incidence and improve the survival rate.

Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp was used as the research object to observe its effects on growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, serum biochemical and immune index.

1. Location & Date:

From July 2nd 2016 to October 2nd, 2016 in South China Agricultural University Aquaculture Laboratory

2. Material:

Litopenaeus vannamei: Provided by Yuehai Feed Group with average body 0.3g±0.02

Runeon: Produced by Shandong Longchang Animal Health Product Co., Ltd, mainly 20% bile acids.

3. Experiment design:

400 tails of Litopenaeus vannamei were randomly divided into control group and test group, each group of 200 tails. The experimental group added 700g/t bile acids into the basal diet.

After the experiment, we test the growth performance, lipase activity, activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and lysozyme (LSZ) for record.

4. Experiment data:

Table 1 Litopenaeus vannamei growth performance and digestive enzyme

The difference between letters of the same type indicates significant difference (p<0.05).

As we can see from the above table, compared with the control group, the final weight of the test group increased by 5.54%, the survival rate increased by 11.94%, the FCR decreased by 4.73%, and the difference was significant (p<0.05).

According to the indicators, adding 700g/t Runeon(bile acids) into the diet of Leptinium vannamei can significantly improve the survival rate and weight gain. , reduce the FCR, bring more benefit to the farmers. Bile acids can improve the fat utilization by increasing the lipase activity.

Table 2. Biochemical indicators and non-specific immune indicators of Leptinium vannamei

Compared with the control group, alkaline phosphatase and superoxide dismutase showed an upward trend, but the difference was not significant (p>0.05); lysozyme increased 20.03%, the difference was significant (p<0.05).

The results showed that the addition of bile acids to the diet of Leptinium vannamei could increase the levels of lysozyme, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and alkaline phosphatase in serum to different degrees, which proved that bile acid enhanced the liver function and non-specific immune function.

5. Summary:

The addition of bile acids into the diet in Litopenaeus vannamei can significantly improve its growth performance, increase lipase activity and immunity, enhance the body's resistance to disease, and improve the serverial rate.
